Kickstarter Campaign Suspended
In late April of 2016, with about five days to go in our Kickstarter campaign, we suspended it indefinitely. We’d managed to take a couple of dozen online pledges and we were also holding several hundred dollars in cash donations when we got the financial commitment of our corporate sponsors, Indian Bear Lodge and Indian Bear Winery. The Indian Bear entities, due to other financial obligations coming into a new spring/summer season, were not able to meet the Kickstarter deadline and, once an end date is set with Kickstarter, fundraisers are not able to change it. Rather than have the project go ‘unfunded’, we suspended it and let all of our individual pledges know.
Many people who pledged have since come forward and donated anyway. We’re happy to have their money and we hope they’ll be just as pleased with their rewards which will start delivering in late June.
The funds are now in place. We’ll be ordering our building on Friday, May 13th, 2016. A fitting day to do so, don’t you think?
Below is the original Kickstarter video and some of the information about what we were trying to accomplish. We thank everyone for their support and encouragement during the campaign and for their continued support as we move foreward with building our haunt home.
Hagan’s House of Horrors Needs to Build a Haunt Home
We want to scare you…scare you good. You want to be scared. We need a place to do it in that we don’t have to go crazy every fall to get set up in time for haunt season and then rush to tear back down, only to have to find a place to store it all until it’s time to do it all again. We want you to have a place to come for all of your haunt themed events – birthdays, weddings, Friday the 13th – and all the other ‘special’ scare occasions you can dream up.
We leased some great space last year. Unfortunately, long term, that space doesn’t work for us. We have to tear any haunt that we build there down by mid-November so the facility can be used for other purposes well into March. Another great space we were expecting to be able to lease very long term has maintenance issues and, now, is tied up in a lawsuit anyway that could hinder its availability for months or even years.
Our solution? Build! We’ve solicited vendors and we’ve gotten quotes. We’ve settled on a ‘build it yourself’ post frame kit that will give us several thousand square feet of haunt space up front and the ability to add on over time.
We’ve saved about half of what we need to buy the building kit and have it delivered to our site. Family and friends are ready and willing to help us do the assembly. We’re going to have to contract for licensed electrical work which will add additional costs but will keep us in compliance with local code ordinances.
When it’s all said and done, we need around $21,000. Right now, just to get the building, we have $7,000. We’ve decided to run a Kickstarter campaign to raise the additional money – just over $7,000 – that we need to purchase the kit and have it delivered.
We need your help!
If you want a great haunt to visit every October in north central Ohio and you’d like some tickets, some great swag and some other benefits for providing a little build assistance, please consider a build gift through Kickstarter. Clicking the link will give you more information about our plans and you’ll get to see all of the rewards we’re offering for your participation.
The campaign kicks off Monday evening, April 4th, 2016 and runs through May 3rd. Every dollar raised will go directly to the build. Most of the swag, we already have.
Can you help? If you can help with a monetary contribution, you’ll get your rewards well before October. If you can’t help out financially, would you share the campaign link with your friends and fellow haunted house lovers?
From all of us at Hagan’s House of Horrors, thank you for your support!
Campaign Update #1 – April 7th, 2016
3 days in – $581.00 pledged toward $7,900 goal
This is a mother and daughter team that worked for us throughout the 2015 haunt season.
They were quite a pair. The daughter’s bloodcurdling scream could be heard throughout the haunt…time after time after time. She’s young. Her vocal cords could take it.
She wants to work with us every year going forward. She wants you to have the chance to hear her scream this year but she needs a place to do it.
We’ve gotten some great backers so far and we appreciate the support of each and every one of you. Please, spread the word. Let your friends know about this young woman who can draw a scream from the depths of her soul so loud, so chilling, that even people coming in from the parking lot can hear it.
Campaign Update #2 – April 13th, 2016
We’re Clawing Our Way Along – #1,246 pledged toward $7,900 goal
We’ve clawed our way to 12% funded. We’ve still got a long way to go together but 3 weeks to do it. We know we can make it because we’ve got some great backers that are spreading the word far and wide.
And hey, we know ‘tickets’ don’t work for a lot of potential backers that are out of state who don’t intend to be in Ohio for the haunt season but please pledge and then contact us. We’ll make it right.
Campaign Update #3 – April 19th, 2016
Half Way? – $1,322 pledged toward $7,900 goal
Today marks the half way point of this campaign…half way in days but not half way in pledges. We’re a little discouraged but we’re pressing on. We’re still talking to everyone we know and collecting little – and sometimes bigger – dribs and drabs of funding here and there. We’re also looking for a corporate sponsor and we’re still trying to save even more on our own.
We certainly aren’t giving up but we have scaled back – just a bit. We’ve chosen to go with a slightly smaller building that will still allow us to put on the show we want to but that shaves a couple of grand off the total cost. Should we get this Kickstarter funding, the excess that would have covered the cost of the larger building will now pay AEP to hook up the electric. We’ll still have to pay a licensed electrician to install systems but we can manage that out of pocket, going forward.
Please spread the word to your family, friends, neighbors and your backer peers. Too, if your employer would be willing to sponsor in return for a lot of advertising, we’d like to talk with them.
We thank everyone that has already pledged or donated directly in cash for their support. We very much appreciate it.If you’re still on the fence about donating, why? Let us know your concern and we’ll do our best to help.
Campaign Update #4 – April 29th, 2016
We Have a Corporate Sponsor!
Hagan’s House of Horrors LLC is excited to announce the commitment of a pair of corporate sponsors to support haunt operations through December of 2017. We’d like to welcome aboard Indian Bear Lodge and Indian Bear Winery, both of Walhonding, Ohio. We’ll be working with them on a combined branding campaign going forward.
The funding commitments made by the Indian Bear entities will commence in late May due to other corporate obligations the two companies currently have. As such, funding will not be available to Hagan’s House of Horrors until a few weeks after this Kickstarter campaign is scheduled to end on May 3rd. We have, at this time, decided to curtail the campaign since our goal will not be met without this funding that wont be available in the 4.5 days of the campaign that remain.
We thank everyone that has donated to the online campaign and who everyone who has given cash based funds to one of our donors to contribute on their behalf. There are several more of you out there than the 20 donors that show up here indicate. Just so you know, we’re counting those cash donations toward our building funding and you’ll certainly get your rewards.
For those of you that have pledged here on Kickstarter directly, we’re personally familiar with 18 of you. If you’d still like to help out, we could certainly use the funds that you’ve pledged and we’ll be more than happy – thrilled – to honor your chosen reward level as well. Had this gone according to plan, we owed out a lot of tickets, stickers, T-shirts, tours and acting opportunities. We still want to give those things to you, if you want them. Please, if you don’t hear from us in the next week or so, get in touch with us.
From all of us at Hagan’s House of Horrors, thank you very much for your support. It’s been our pleasure to work with you and we look forward to scaring the pants off of you during the 2016 Halloween season and beyond!
